Our clients were delighted with the wonderful new garden landscaping project that they had just finished but now their kitchen was looking tired and dated.
We spent time walking around the garden and listening to how our clients wanted a kitchen that was built just for them, with an island breakfast bar that could seat at least six family or friends for casual dining on comfortable upholstered stools. We have worked for this client for about 15 years so we had a great understanding of how they worked and together we created a wish list and made notes on how they used their current kitchen and how we can improve on its design visually but also on its practicality and function.
The first step was to plan the layout of the kitchen making sure that there was even a cupboard for their daughters baking equipment. Once every detail was agreed the plans were given to the master cabinet maker. The garden was the inspiration behind the colour of the walls too, while a soft grey was chosen as the paint colour for the kitchen units.
The back splash behind the hob is our clients personal signature to make their kitchen unique as they love hand cut clay tiles. One final touch was to change the old upvc wood style doors which blocked out so much of the view into the garden.
The result is a bright welcoming space. The bespoke wooden cupboards have an unmistakable quality to them, you can feel it when you open or close a door or drawer. There is plenty of storage space and enough work surface for baking equipment to be in use at the same time as cooking dinner without getting in the way of each other. The island breakfast bar is a great place to share a gin and tonic with friends before heading out into the garden. There is also no rush to head off to the dining room after a busy day as it is completely comfortable to enjoy a relaxed dinner while watching the television which is normally hidden behind bi-folding doors.
